010 Synchronicity and Misalignment with Your Purpose

In this solo episode, I share my struggles with falling in and out of alignment with my purpose. There are many everyday distractions as well as just living that can impact our ability to stay focused. I share how a recent project I was working on left me feeling very drained, out of sync and unmotivated. I share what feelings and behaviors helped me recognize that I was out of alignment. I also provide five tips on how to self-correct, seek out help and get back to the business of walking in one’s purpose.

I also talk about how making the decision to self-correct lead to synchronicities which resolved the issues without much help from me other than having to be more intentional. I also share how I quit my corporate job in 2017 to focus on full-time entrepreneurship because I was feeling misaligned, along with the unexplained coincidences that took place once I made that decision. That decision lead to the formation of my second business, a self-published book ‘60 Affirmations & Reflections for Entrepreneurs’, the Quit Your Job Conference and the launch of this podcast. That one decision also brought me in more alignment with my purpose and has given me the space to create these platforms to encourage others to find alignment with their purpose and provide tools for them to do so.

Second Chances With Simla

In this episode, I chat about how Founder of Hands On Journey, Simla Sooboodoo. Simla shares how she found her purpose after having two major brain surgeries back in 2007. She shares how her whole perspective change and she walked away feeling born again and that she was had a purpose. Simla also shares how she always had a passion for travel but she wanted to create a bridge between the travelers and the communities they traveled, she wanted to have an impact that was both sustainable and long term. From here empowerment tourism was born.

Simla Sooboodoo may have started life as a girl in Mauritius watching the planes fly overhead and doubting she’d ever fly in one, but life has turned out very differently. Simla now runs her own company, Hands On Journeys, and strives to promote the concept of Empowerment Tourism.

After migrating to Australia, Simla studied accounting and worked her way up to a position as a regional finance manager for a large tour operator, but wanted to make more of a difference. She survived a health crisis and nearly died and decided there was no better time to invest in her own company, creating tours that helped give back to local communities and empower them to create their own better futures.

Starting Hands on Journeys was always more than a job or business to Simla, it was about turning everything she is passionate about into part of her daily life. She spends a lot of time on the road now as she likes to be as involved in the communities and tours as possible. From training new tour guides to researching the projects and communities Hands On Journeys will work with, these are all parts of the business that are so important to her she cannot imagine delegating them to her team. Helping to empower women in countries as diverse as Fiji, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Mexico, and Australia has created an entirely new and immensely satisfying career.

Purpose and Fearless Intuition With Jordana

In this episode, I chat with serial entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist, Jordana Guimaraes. Jordana shares how she opted out of college and experimented with multiple jobs prior to finding her passion in public relations (PR). At 23 a decision to grab a career book in Barnes & Noble, that described every career imaginable, lead her to her passion. After reading the section on PR, she instinctively knew that’s the career she should pursue. With no experience or background in that industry, she fearlessly applied for a PR Director role at an agency. The firm like her boldness and offered her a three-month unpaid role with no training to see if she could do the job. Needless to say, after three months the firm offered her the job which she turned down in order to pursue a PR career as an entrepreneur. Jordana has spent the last 15 years, in marketing and public relations for the fashion industry. Jordana and her husband Marcelo, co-Founded FASHINNOVATION, a startup that uses technology to connect entrepreneurs and innovation to create revolutionary change in the fashion industry.

Jordana is also the Author of It Can Be You, a book dedicated to bringing awareness and changing the narrative surrounding homelessness. She spearheaded The Nylon Project, a campaign to bring awareness and monetary aid to homelessness. She shares how when homelessness is humanized we allow ourselves and others to show more compassion toward one another.
